The (former) Captain of Indian Cricket Team Mahendra Singh Dhoni resigned from his limited overs captaincy on Wednesday evening of 5th of January 2017. Dhoni has captained Team India for 199 ODI’s, 72 t20i and 60 Tests. Dhoni is the only captain in the world to win all major trophies including ICC World Cup in 2011, ICC World T20 in 2007, ICC Champions Trophy 2013 and 2 Asia Cups in 2010 and 2016.
If you ask any cricket fan around the world who is the best captain, the answer would be either Ponting or Dhoni. Dhoni has captained Chennai Super Kings in IPL won it 2 times but still Dhoni resigned despite He tasted success most of the time. So what or who could be the real reason behind Dhoni left his captaincy?? , the answer is Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli has captained team India in Test format since Dhoni resigned from his captaincy and retired in 2014 December. Indian Team has performed better in Test format in 2016 under Virat Kohli’s captaincy in 2016 than the limited overs format which was captained by Dhoni.

Although India won the Asia Cup last year in the captaincy of Dhoni, Team India had a terrible World T20 tournament on their home last year which is also captained by Dhoni. In that tournament India started their World t20 campaign with a large defeat against New Zealand in front of their home crowd. India almost lost their match against Bangladesh in the same t20. However thanks to Virat Kohli’s brilliant knock against Australia which ensured India’s place in World t20 2016 Semi Final.

India lost the World T20 2016 semifinal at the Wankhede Stadium where India won 2011 Cricket World Cup. The main reason for India’s Defeat was the No ball bowled by Ashwin and Pandhya at the wrong time when they got the wickets of Simmons and Russell respectively. Dhoni introduced Ashwin to Indian Team and he showed all why he was selected ahead of Harbajan Singh with his performance. But the Friendship and Bond of Dhoni and Ashwin was looked very low. Dhoni gave only 2 overs for Ashwin in the virtual quarter final vs Australia in ICC World T20 2016. In the same tournament Ashwin did a big mistake by bowling a no ball in semifinal when he took the wicket of Simmons of West Indies, if that hadn’t happened India would have got through the Final and would have won the world cup in front of their home crowd and there wouldn’t have been question on Dhoni’s captaincy. In 2016 India almost lost a T20 series against Zimbabwe in Dhoni’s Captaincy. But in Kohli’s captaincy India won a test series in Sri Lanka after 23 years and India whitewashed West Indies in West Indies. Currently India is Unbeaten in last 18 test matches and No.1 test team under Virat Kohli’s captaincy which is far better compared to Dhoni’s Test Captaincy.

Former Indian Cricketer’s also questioned and criticized Dhoni’s captaincy. Surely the events that happened in the past year and Virat Kohli’s current captaincy record are the major reason which made Dhoni to resign and give the Team to a young team. However Thanks to Dhoni for brilliant captaincy for the Indian Team and all the best to Virat Kohli.
