HC grants permission to Karunanidhi on Marina

DMK chief Kalaingar M Karunanidhi, a five-time chief minister of Tamil Nadu and the DMK president for 50 years, died in Kauvery Hospital here at 6.10pm on Tuesday. He was 94.

The Tamil Nadu Government had rejected the DMK’s request for space at Marina Beach for a memorial for the former Tamil Nadu CM and instead had allocated two acres of land at Gandhi Mandapam for Karunanidhi’s burial.

The hearing of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (DMK’s) demand for land at Chennai’s Marina Beach for the burial of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and party President M Karunanidhi is underway, with the state government filing its counter-affidavit in the case.

Meanwhile, DMK supporters had taken to the streets, demanding space for a Karunanidhi memorial at Marina Beach.

The court also asked what the problem was in allotting a burial site for him at Marina beach. Finally, The Madras High Court order to the state government to accept the request of DMK and on Wednesday and granted permission to bury the mortal remains of late DMK leader M.Karunanidhi
