Cop film are very usual to Tamil cinema and the new cop in town is our very own , close to heart Vijay Sethupathi’s ” Sethupathi “. The film created a little buzz after the trailer and song release and released with not much big hype except for Vijay Sethupathi .
We have seen “n” number of cop films in tamil so far. Lets see what is new in this flick. Sethupathi is all about the mix of personal and professional events happening in the day to day life of a police officer. What happens when a particular incident brings threat to his carrier and how he reacts and overcomes should be witnessed on the screen.
Vijay Sethupathy the man of screen presence ! He is just adorable in each scene . Vijay Sethupathi as a honest police officer, a lovable husband and a good dad, Its refreshing to see him wearing Khaaki. A taylor made role for him, very casual acting with powerful attitude, to sum up I would say he nailed it. We can give 100 marks just for his expressions alone. Film is a pure one man show.
Among the two kids, the small boy has scope to perform and he did well. He
gets a whistle worthy scene in second half.Ramya Nambeesan as Vijay Sethupathy’s wife and a mother of 2 kids. She is perfect fit to that role. The ‘Pizza’ pair’s chemistry is superb. Husband and wife romantic scenes are lovely.Other characters which stays in mind are, the assistant cop ‘Murthy’, the Head police officer and the Villain Vela Ramamoorthy. Villain reminds our famous ‘Manibarathy’ role of Satriyan movie.
Music composer Nivas K Prasanna of ‘Thegidi’ fame. Songs are enjoyable. Title card
rolls with ‘Mazhai Thooralam..’ followed by the first song ‘Hawa Hawa’. Film has one
lovely melody in chitra’s voice – ‘Konji Pesida Venam..’.To beat all these, there is a
kickass song ‘Hey Mama..’. BGM elevates the mood of the movie.
Technically the movie is good with settled camera work and neat editing. Credits to
cinematographer Dinesh Krishnan and editor Sreekar Prasad. Songs have been
picturised beautifully. Action scenes are choreographed well.
A thin line story and good screenplay added with proper mix of action and romance. He has included few mass elements in the script, which intact works well. Interval scene was a surprise. Post interval incidents are very less and predictable ends up giving a feel that the story stays right there itself.Ending was so quick. Planning for a sequel?
Positives :
Sethupathy’s outstanding performance, Romantic scenes between Vijay sethupathy and Ramya Nambeesan, Comedy scenes inside the police station, interval block and music. Good first half followed by a pretty decent second half. Overall this cop action drama is a worth watchable one.
Negative :
Drama may not be pleasing to everyone. Lacks pace at places .
