Vijay (born Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar) is an Indian film actor and playback singer who works in the Tamil film industry.

Son of film director and producer S. A. Chandrasekhar, he started his career as a child actor in the movie Vetri and later made his debut as a lead actor in the 1992 film Naalaya Theerpu, both of which were directed by his father.

He also launched the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, a social welfare organisation in 2009.

Vijay was listed 41 in Forbes India’s “Celebrity 100 List” for the year 2014 and is ranked higher than any Tamil actor.

Vijay became a Roman Catholic after taking his Holy Communion at a Chennai church.

He had a sister Vidhya, who died at the age of two years.

He is a Christian by birth. His father S. A. Chandrasekhar is a popular film director.

Vijay married Sangeetha Sornalingam on 25 August 1999.

They have two children, a son Sanjay born in 2000 in London, and a daughter Divya born in 2005 in Chennai

The film, which had music was composed by Mani Sharma, released to positive reviews from critics on 14 November 2001.

The film is about a man Ashok (Vijay) who helps lovers. He understands the psychology of women and knows how to catch their heart. Whenever a man wants a girl to fall in love with him, Ashok makes it occur.

However, he advises his friends not to tell their love immediately because of past incidents that even lead to a death. Ashok falls in love with a girl (Richa Pallod), but never tells his love to her. His friend starts to love her and Ashok is not aware of this.

Ashok ends up helping his friend making his love succeed, without knowing that his friend’s girlfriend is his crush. Ashok realizes the girl was Richa at the register marriage near the end of the movie and bursts into tears when his friends are not looking.

The movie ends as Ashok not marrying Richa and is a helper for couples forever.

Paiyaa (English: Boy) is a 2010 Indian Tamil romantic action film written and directed by N. Linguswamy. It stars Karthi and Tamannaah, with Milind Soman, Sonia Deepti and Jagan appearing in supporting roles.

The film follows the journey of two strangers – a jobless carefree man, living in Bangalore, and a woman with whom he has fallen in love. Upon the woman’s request, he drives her to Mumbai, while a group of gangsters follow them, planning to kidnap the woman. Meanwhile, the man also has a past in the city and he goes there to sort it out.

The film, produced by N. Subash Chandra Bose under the banner of Thirupathi Brothers and distributed by Dhayanidhi Alagiri’s Cloud Nine Movies, features a film score and soundtrack composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography by Madhi and editing by Anthony Gonsalves.

Following a lengthy pre-production phase, during which the film underwent major changes in its main cast and its technical crew, it began shooting in December 2008 at various locations throughout South India, most notably in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. The film was released on 2 April 2010 to predominantly positive reviews and was commercially successful.

A Telugu dubbed version of the film titled Awara was released on 21 May in Andhra Pradesh and also received positive response and it was also dubbed in Hindi as Bhaai – Ek Gangster.

Paiyaa was remade in Bengali in 2012 as Jaaneman, starring Soham Chakraborty and Koel Mallick, and in Kannada in 2014 as Ajith, with Chiranjeevi Sarja playing the male lead.

Vijayakanth spitting at Reporters – Cover Story

Taking questions about the upcoming state elections, Vijayakanth dares the journalists to ask Jayalalithaa the same questions or any question at all. “I’m standing here chatting you all up and I’m being nice but how about trying to approach her? You’re all scared,” he spits.

“All I have to say about the AIADMK is that I don’t like them one bit,” Vijayakanth says.

“Does anyone of you dare ask her to organize a press meet? If your owner asks you to do it, you may, otherwise, you won’t even go miles near her.”

The DMDK chief is playing his cards carefully before BJP president Amit Shah’s visit to Tamil Nadu scheduled for January. Vijayakanth is not committing himself to any tie-up with the BJP just yet.

Chennai Press Club has condemned Vijayakanth for this alleged misbehaviour with journalists and has asked him to openly apologise for “continuously” behaving in an “uncivilised” manner with them.

Velaiilla Pattadhari (English: Unemployed Graduate), popularly referred to as VIP, is a 2014 Indian Tamil masala film written, directed and filmed by Velraj, in his directorial debut.

The film features Dhanush, Amala Paul in the lead roles, while Vivek, Saranya Ponvannan, Samuthirakani and Surabhi play supporting roles.

Dhanush, besides acting, producing and distributing the venture in association with Escape Artists Motion Pictures, also worked as the lyricist and album producer on the film’s original soundtrack with composer Anirudh Ravichander, who also composed the film’s background score.

The film focuses on Raghuvaran, a graduate who is unemployed for four years, and how he gets a job, whilst successfully overcoming various obstacles before and after finding employment.

Principal photography commenced in August 2013 and was completed by May 2014, with the film being shot primarily in Chennai.

The film was released on 18 July 2014, and received positive critical reception. The film grossed ₹ 190.8 million on its opening weekend and earned a worldwide collection ₹ 530 million during its lifetime run.

The film was dubbed into Telugu as Raghuvaran B.Tech, which was released on 1 January 2015.
