Chinnaponnu Early life
She was born and brought up in the Sivagangai District of Tamil Nadu in a small village Suranam. She was very much interested in singing from her childhood. She got married to Composer and percussionist Selva Kumar in the year 1990. After Marriage, they both have performed together in many temple festivals and occasions since her husband was also involved in the musical field.
At the age of 13, Chinnaponnu started to develop an interest in the singing field.
That paved the way for her to perform in many temple festivals and churches when she was so young. Then her magical folk voice tone attracted K.A. Gunasekaran, a leading researcher in the field of folks who have recognized her talent and promoted her performance all over Tamil Nadu. During her early stage of singing, her song was recorded and released as CDs and Cassettes.
Chinnaponnu Career
She started her singing career in the Tamil Film Industry as a Playback singer in the movie “Chandramukhi”. Her debut song in that movie was “vazhthuren Vazthuren” which brings her to the limelight.
After her debut, she started gaining popularity and started to appear in many Television programs and also got plenty of offers from various Music directors. This was her first initial stage of being a professional singer.
Chinnaponnu Recognition
She started earning recognition by winning the award of ‘The Edition Award 2010’ for the song “theeka theeka” from the movie ‘Suryan Sattakalloori’ directed by S.S. Pandian. Since 2010, her career growth is incredible. She also got a chance to be feature as one of the artists in the theme song composed by famous Musician A.R. Rahman and the video was directed by one of the famous directors Gautham Menon for the World Classical Tamil Conference 2010.
In 2010 and 2011, She was given a chance to be a part of the Chennai Sangamam Festival in which her troupe was one of the Headline Act Performers. Later in 2011, She appeared in the Television series of MTV coke studio on the episodes of “Vethalai” and “Tere Naam”.

Not only a singer in Tamil Film Industry she got some offers in Telugu Film Industry too. She utilizes those opportunities. In 2012, Chinnaponnu made her debut in Tollywood as a playback singer in the movie Bus stop and sung the song “Pattuko and Pattuko”.
That debut song got her some other chances in Telugu Film Industry too. She worked as a playback Singer in some other movies under the music director Devi Sri Prasad.

Chinnaponnu got the predominant attention from all over the music lovers from the song “Nakku Mukka”. It was a huge success in her career. This song was very well appreciated by the audience. Chinnaponnu sang a female version of “Nakku Mukka” in the film kadhalil vizhundhen releases in the year 2008. She was honored as The Best Folk Singer in the Tamil Film Industry and received a “Kannadasan Award” for this Nakku Mukkha song.
